Chants D'Auvergne: Vol. II, No. 3: Pastourelle
https://youtu.be/Ke4k0TUDf2U?si=94fn5CpMGFesjdUlThe Chants D'Auvergne are amongst my favourite pieces of vocal music. "Baïlèro" is deservedly widely known, but there are so many others to love; for example, I cannot imagine ever tiring of "Pastourelle".
The songs also make me think about the relationship of folk music to concert music, regionalism in French culture, and the tension between art we like and politics we don't; Canteloube was a conservative who tied his promotion of the traditional music of the French regions to the values of the Vichy regime.
