What a week. My team assessed over $15m dollars in #wildfire damages to infrastructure in 2024, it will likely grow. The fires, such as #RailRidge are still burning. Recovery will be a long process for an area that is both rural and resilient.
Our head firefighting agency reported almost $100m in costs that won't be reimburses through the #fmag program
The numbers this year:
- 1.9m acres burnt
- Yearly avg. is 620,000
- Yearly budget is ~100m
-$250m has been spent on suppression
-State of Emergency - July to October
-17 Conflagration Act declarations (a record)
-12 FMAG Declarations
-1 death, and dozens of injuries of both civilians and firefighters

@ai6yr It's funny how the news cycle can be a few months behind. I think a solution that could work is a streamlined federal aid request process through FEMA Region Duty Officers, similar to #fmag requests. We'd need a new per capita cost threshold that is specific to the type of hazard (heat and smoke).
