People insisting it's normal to do work for a company without being paid for it is just wild to me. People literally arguing against their own interests out of pure ignorance.
In the US this is covered by the #FairLaborStandardsAct (#FLSA) which is extremely simple when defining what's considered on-the-job work. If it is mandatory, work-related, and for the benefit of the company, then it is on-the-job work and you should be paid for the time.
Coordinating with IT on what device they're going to ship you? That's on-the-job work.
Driving to a job site that is not your main office? That's on-the-job work.
Meeting with a client for lunch to discuss your latest deliverable? That's on-the-job work.
Know your rights, folks. #WageTheft is the top form of theft in the US by a wide margin

As some states look to loosen the limitations on #childlabor, they may walk right into the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act #FLSA While the Federal child labor rules leave something to be desired, they may block some of the more egregious state actions. I would expect to see Federal court challenges to some of these laws quickly. https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/fact-sheets/43-child-labor-non-agriculture

Support for the Child Labor Amendment, which applied restrictions to #ChildLabor in the U.S., was evident in a nationwide #GallupPoll in 1936.
#Democrats were in favor by a wide margin, while #Republicans (despite having introduced it) were more opposed. Young voters were widely in favor over their elders.
Some measures of the still-unadopted amendment were addressed in the Fair Labor Standards Act, or #FLSA, which passed into law in 1938.
