  16. Holy cow! This is why I give film a good look over and cleaning before letting it go through a projector. Yes, those are STAPLES. That's the obvious splicing technique when you don't have the correct tape at hand, right? #filmediting #16mmfilm #cinemastodon

"There is no B camera footage" is always a valid excuse to not use the B cam footage, especially AFTER the director of the shoot is forced to admit that he ALSO doesn't have it.

  30. I'm looking for an editor and colour grader to help with a comedy short, about 6 minutes long. All well-lit interior footage. I did the editing myself and I'm not happy with it, so I think it will look better in my directorial portfolio if I have a pro do it right. Please send past work and estimated rates to [email protected].

  35. It's been an interesting challenge re-editing these #MaxHeadroom clips into a portrait aspect ratio.

It's tricky, especially if you're trying to retain the essence of the scene.

For example, in the Nightingale body bank clip, Mr. Bruegel (pictured, on the right) puts his hand on Florence's shoulder while negotiating a price for Edison's "celebrity" body.

At this ratio, it's trivial to just give in and clip the gesture out of both angles of the scene (on Bruegel, and the reverse shot on Florence). But doing so loses a bit of the menace, and her response to it. Body language!

This, sadly, leads to the unfortunate necessity of resorting to panning to capture it. I try to avoid that, preferring to cut between the same scene strategically. But sometimes it can't be helped, so you have to at least try to make the pan subtle. If possible.

I share in the general dislike of portrait video, but under the right (if sub-optimal) conditions it can be a fun effort.
