dont mind me doing a little ventposting in the wake of 2xko's death, but
i hate what a stranglehold street fighter has on the way people talk about fighting games. i hate that every new game is judged against the standard SF sets, and because that series is so popular, players of it (esp. new sf6 players) get to drown out conversation from other audiences that want different things instead of expanding their tastes or shutting up about things they don't like
it feels so juvenile that games that are not SF are flamed for being different, and it sucks how the prevailing opinion keeps telling me that the things I enjoy in fighting games are "wrong"
I know this isnt true for every SF player, and it's not true for the FGC at large, but god does it still feel like it to me #fightinggames #fgc

WE don't live in a world where I am willing to go pick up Vampire Saviors or Street Fighter 3 or a King of Fighters made before the Obama administration. I'm not gonna suddenly stop disliking the cast of Under Night.
If forced to choose between "being dragged to Hell by Night Demons" and "Playing Super Smash Bros again" I'd sigh and pick the Night Demons
I'm a Fighting game diehard, not a purist. I like going to tourneys, but I also like high production value. I like seasonal character releases and balance patches and big expressive English voice acting. I like getting excited for new games and mechanics and characters
But when i pick up a game, "labor of love" vs "Soulless cash grab" is low on my list of criteria.
Fighting games are difficult and obtuse and communal and frustrating and more exciting satisfying than just about anything in the world. But most players have to go through all that shit before they get to good shit in the back half of that sentence.
Street Fighter 6's World Tour mode is good. it's the most time ive put into a single player mode of a fighting game since... Soul Caliber 2's Weapon Master mode.
It's only possible cause that game had a huge budget.
#2XKO "flopped" as much as it was sabotaged by a stupid name and poor marketing and niche subgenre and small roster and unrealistic expectations from the soulless company that made it.
But no, i don't think big tourneys or cash pots are Bad Actually™. Big crowds excitedly watching high level gameplay is good for drawing new players in a genre with awful retention.

My Hot Take™ is that Fighting games are good when both players know what they're doing and both make a choice and someone explodes.
Guess for Game™ is good actually.
The earlier players can get to that level of knowledge and performance, the better.
Losing cause you lack esoteric knowledge about a goofy ass glitch or interaction sucks.

Here are the results of the first week of the Street Fighter 6 CPU vs CPU tournament. 3 rounds of fights have been put into the books as Marisa and surprise underdog E. Honda lead the way with a 3-0 record while former heavy hitter Chun-li and continued dissapointmnet, JP sit at the bottom of the bracket with an 0-3 record.
