  1. As a mod for Sakurajima Social and as a relay between Sakurajima and Urusai Social, I have been noticing a lot of #spam #bot attacks in the past few days. I feel like mods are playing whack-a-mole against these bots. I wonder if mods/admins will get tired enough to temporarily limit all instances that could be targeted for attack, which I'm calling "erecting a #fedibarrier". Yes, #StopForumSpam and #hCaptcha are good for certain cases, but hCaptcha and other CAPTCHAs are not effective against bots that create accounts via the API directly (that I know of, at least), and StopForumSpam and other lists can be overcome if bots try to brute-force their way to get past the email validation.

Although limiting almost every server will be tedious, it will affect relationships among those who are not mutuals with each other, and it goes against why the
#fediverse exists, but the time and energy #moderators and #admin spend while trying to stop these bots.
