Had a wonderful time taking a group of cyclists on a tour around the city of Federal Way today! It was a surprise to see the Denny Cabin was open and special to take people to the Bubbleator from the Century 21 Expo in 1962 including a few who actually got to ride in it back when it was in service.

Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden cont'd. I saw this tree on the way out the gate-- and hurriedly snapped this photo to confirm that it's a Wollemi pine (Wollemi nobilis). Native to Australia, it was only discovered in the 1990s in a remote valley in NSW, and critically endangered. Often called a "living fossil," it's part of an ancient lineage of trees and related to the Monkey Puzzle tree of Patagonia.

As I walked past this plant I first assumed it was a bug unruly yew, but it's not, it's a #Rhododendron. Rhododendron roxieanum var oreonates, native to Southern China. Those buds will become white flowers in May or June.
