My #FavCharacterG is the first one I get to pull from an American comic. I'm more of a Marvel guy than a DC fan but Guy Gardner is one of a small number of DC characters I always appreciate.
Guy Gardner is a Green Lantern. Powered by Alien Space Magic and his own willpower. He's also a dick. A jerk. A jackass. But he's also heroic and willing to put himself in danger to help and save people.
While Hal Jordan is understated and John Stewart is cool and stoic, Guy is loud. He's cocky. He has an attitude and a Boston accent in several appearances.. He's often lil more violent than the other human green lanterns and always less agreeable or polite.
It helps that comic writers frequently go out of their way to make him the butt of jokes, to punish him for that irreverent attitude. He doesn't get to be a jerk and be praised for it. But he's a jerk nonetheless
I like side characters because they get to have attitudes and flaws and be wrong sometimes. They have to leave room for the hero, but they also get to be more.... bombastic. Guy is fun and funny and I wish more comics had guys or gals like him. Boisterous. Rude. Funny.
I see parts of myself in this jerkass. He's genuine. He's unapologetic. He's heroic. I am most polite with strangers. The closer you get to me, the more likely you are to catch an off color joke or friendly insult. It's part of me trusting you.
Guy Gardner is a little of who I get to be with my friends.

Because I am an unserious person, my choices for #FavCharacterG are between an overconfident hero who can fly and is often the butt of jokes... and DC's Guy Gardner

@[email protected] Big fan of wizards. So I was very tempted to talk about Gandalf, my first wizard. Or Geloë, the witch of the woods in Memory, Sorrow and Thorn. Big fan of Berserk, so this would be a great opportunity to talk about Guts' journey, or Griffith, or the drama playing out between the two of them. Or GLaDOS and her fantastic voice.
But we are here to talk about our favourite characters, so for G it has to be Galadriel. Not quite the eldest elf still on Middle-earth by The Lord of the Rings, but I believe she is the only one, aside from Glorfindel, who lived in Valinor in the time of the trees and her hair is said to resemble the mingled gold and silver of their light at its most beautiful.
What first drew me to Galadriel was her might as an elven queen, ruler of a kingdom with piercing insight into the minds of others and a ring of power upon her finger. Later I came to appreciate her blend of pride and wisdom—she wanted to rule a kingdom of her own but was wise enough to keep herself apart from Fëanor and refuse to participate in any kinslaying, choosing instead to walk the long path over the ice to Middle-earth.
Ultimately I think she makes a foil to Sauron, who both were offered the chance to end their rebellion and come back to Valinor at the end of the First Age, and both refuse. She in the end chooses to go while he in fear hides away and eventually batters himself into a mere shadow of his former self as a consequence of his return to evil.
"I pass the test. I will diminish, and go into the West, and remain Galadriel." #FavCharacterAtoZ, #FavCharacterG -

#FavCharacterG for #FavCharacterAtoZ .G is easy. The incomparable G'Kar from #Babylon5 .
What can I say about G'Kar? His singing voice? His humour? His dedication to his people? His deeply philosophical transmogrification? His amazingly sexy nightgown? (And this from a straight guy!)
Not many fishes left in the sea...

for #FavCharacterG I'm going with the Fate/Stay Night interpretation of legendary hero Gilgamesh
a great villain who claims that the world and all if its treasures belong to him already and all who claim otherwise are mere mongrels unworthy of his attention. He bores easily and is extremely arrogant but he can back up his arrogance with his (now often imitated) Gate of Babylon attack where with little effort he can summon the weapons of all of the heroes of history and mythology through golden portals and propel them at his enemies en masse.

@ami_angelwings It's the middle of the night, but this just hit me.
Gomez Addams.
Gomez has appeared in many forms, comics, tv shows, movies, animation. But his joie de vivre and deep love for his wife and family always struck a chord with me.
Gomez is someone who enjoys life, loves deeply and openly, laughs and cries freely, and is passionate about the things that he cares about.
For me, he is an example to look up to and an ideal to strive for.

I've been thinking about my #FavCharacterG and I REALLY hope I'm not forgetting somebody that I'm going to kick myself for, but I think it is going to be:
Guinan from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
She's smart and wise and lived so long that she has a lot of perspective on things, including death and genocide, and doesn't get shaken by much. She's even able to overcome her hatred of the Borg to see the humanity in Hugh before Picard did.
There's so many great Guinan moments it's hard to count, she doesn't show up a lot but when she does, it's always important what she has to say, whether it's about leadership or slavery or anything else. She's why Data has his freedom & why Riker got the confidence to beat the Borg.
also she wears cool hats

@ami_angelwings #FavCharacterAtoZ in time travel was HARD for "G". For the first time, I'm going with a character I haven't seen: Gideon
From what little I know, they're effectively a future AI as well as being the time ship in "Legends of Tomorrow". Maybe someone else on #FavCharacterG can clue me in more, or has a different temporal "G" suggestion.

Goliath. As much as Gargoyles had the unfortunate tendency to kinda just be The Goliath Show a lot of the time, he's a fantastic embodiment of the show's thesis and Greg Weisman's writing in general. Goliath lives in a world that constantly insists he's a monster and he refuses to allow it to make him into one. If anything all the ways he's flawed are entirely human. -

We are up to G in #FavCharacterAtoZ this is easy for me because when this comic debuted I was heavily into indy books. My #FavCharacterG is a lot of people Hunter, Christine, Eppie but all of them are better known as Grendel. Grendel is a devil that kills, struggles to do the right thing, and eventually grows into a planetary movement.

@ami_angelwings My #FavCharacterG is Grey, from Void Strangers. I don't wanna speak too much to it, but she's just such a rich character and the game explores her personal struggles and relationships staggeringly well. She's just has a ton of interiority that makes her a really fantastic to see more of as you progress through the game
