#fallsfrombed — Public Fediverse posts

Live and recent posts from across the Fediverse tagged #fallsfrombed, aggregated by home.social.

  1. Tried to watch over an elderly relative, who'd had a hemmorhagic stroke, going through first the Neurological ward (multiples #FallsFromBed) then Delerium ward (tied to chair, left wandering when marked "Two person assist") at #SCGH #Perth then #AgedCareFacility (severe mistreatment).

    Learnt hospitals, nursing homes and medical clinics environments are;
    management/HR,
    medico-legal,
    industrialised, &,
    commercialised,
    environments.

    Hard lessons.

    You need:
    Paper, pen, who, what, when.

The following is a non-expert, personal opinion.

If I'm going into a Neurological ward, I will try to get into a room shared with as many other patients as possible, especially if I'm at risk of #FallsFromBed.

A public hospital may try and push me towards using any applicible #PrivateHealthInsurance and then try to "upgrade" me to a private room - then I will not be seen by as many people if I begin to fall from bed.

Not sure if private hospitals have the shared option

In my experience #FallsFromBed is an area in which #Nursing fails.

On reporting yet another fall ftom bed* I realised that the nurses had been trained, as part of the #FallsPreventionProgram, to respond immediately with "Not all falls can be prevented".

The #Ethics of this training are IMO corrupted. Initiating general training about falls when a specific fall is being reported functions as an attempted #MindFuck.

    * 5 total? One fall changed things from "rehab" to "transition".

Perpendicular to this is the benefits and costs of being in a +3 bed ward.

For some conditions having more people around seeing what is going on is very beneficial.
Private rooms sound all very nice.
But being alone when hositalised can be a very poor career move.

    #FallsFromBed being one example. #Hospitals #PublicHealth
