“What are the dangers of port forwarding?”

Oh sweet child, are you an adult? Cause this needs a serious discussion. Let’s talk… and minors please leave the room.

You’ve established a gloryhole. Anyone and everyone will be all over that new open port. You better have protection, anti-virus, and a segmented network.

If they find a vulnerability, they’ll manage to be in the room with you. They now have your machine. They’ll look and scan everything on that machine, everything on the networks it’s attached to. They’re gonna find the goodies. They’re going to violate your network, your machine, and all the machines attached.

Are you ready to protect and isolate an infected machine? Are you keeping that machine patched and services up-to-date? AI is here, and it’s automagically violating. This isn’t a fun time.

So next time someone wants a port forwarded, ask them if they’re ready to establish a gloryhole. Tell them they aren’t ready. Tell them to rent a VPS with a cloud provider before you open a gaping hole in your network.

I use exwm (the Emacs window manager) on a Debian stable system.

As far as I can tell, I have customised everything I can to bring up either eww or firefox when I need to browse the web (eww preferred but some sites need a graphical interface with javascript, e.g. my bank).

Annoyingly, for some reason, opening a URL sometimes brings up librewolf. I cannot see anywhere in my config that references librewolf.

Does anybody have any suggestion on how to figure out why librewolf is being run instead of either eww or firefox?

I updated #elpher to 3.7.0, it works fine.

But, when I select a http[s] site it loads it in dillo. That is fine, but is there a way to have the site load int #emacs #eww instead ?

I know little about lisp.

i use eww to display text from an elfeed, rss feed but it lumps code blocks from the blogs together.

M-indent-region doesn't un-lump the code. Is there any other display modes for elfeed ?

@mcourcel @technocounselor Right? I know that freaks me out. Used to be you had to go deep into the woods to encounter such. But I know someone who got Lime Disease from a tick just sitting under a tree eating his lunch on a construction job site in a suburban neighborhood near where I live. And now on top of that we have coyotes around here also. #Eww

Anybody else find it funny that #Emacs' #EWW (Emacs Web Wowser) text web browser cannot access the Emacs Wiki? 😆

It is due to the wiki getting hit by too many bots, which sucks because it'd be nice to access it with EWW.

Lots of jokes on my timeline today that are just brutal. #Eww Humor that's mean spirited is not actually humor. I do not need that in my world. Alrighty then I'll keep it movin' right along then.

I'll keep an eye out for it and see whether that was just a brain cramp or if it is true ...

i made a pop-out control panel for controlling the Envox BB3 power supply and oscilloscope from the desktop (for times when i'm too lazy to reach out to the instrument :)). it's using eww dock which is polling the instruments by sending SCPI commands and which can also trigger actions on instruments (voltage/current set, channel enable, trigger start/stop/single/force).

@khinsen @andros I do similar, setting `browse-url-handlers` to specify actual browsers to use, e.g. for banking sites in my case.

@andros eww is my go to browser for any new site (and ones I already know work well in eww). If I find that eww is not suitable for a particular site, I simply type '&' (bound to `eww-browse-with-external-browser`) to view the site in, for instance, firefox or vivaldi.

What I like about eww is that it doesn't have any scripting support so is inherently safer than many graphical browsers.
