  4. Doing hard things...ooft.

    It feels, hard, right?

I'm bringing another hard thing to fruition this week - I'm having my viva to share my completed research project with my supervisors and edge one step closer to my Level 7 qualification.

This milestone got me thinking...is there anything I can share about the kind of thinking that can help us to bring about wishes or dreams that are doable but feel very hard?

And as I had that thought, I realised it was a year to the day since I got on the plane to travel to Nepal to embark on the trek to Everest Base Camp...now THAT'S a hard thing! I realised I might have a few useful thoughts to share on how I made it up there for interested parties, and that's the inspiration for today's newsletter!

If you are ADHD and/or autistic and you have hopes, wishes and goals that you would love to bring to fruition but they're hard - and also, they might take some time - then this might be an interesting read for you...

    I hope you enjoy it!

  9. Training hike today for #EverestBaseCamp

With what I call "hard and far away" goals, my personal experience is that I need to get excited IN THE HERE AND NOW.

This is because I struggle sometimes to stay motivated for and focused on things further away that don't naturally pull me towards action right now.

But the thing is...if I don't train for base camp in advance and I don't learn about and prepare for things like altitude sickness in advance, I know this could prevent me from getting to base camp. It could also harm my health.

For this reason, I work out with my own coach and my journal what small, accessible and enjoyable things I might just be able to do in the days and weeks leading up to my big, far away thing and then I...just think about my motivation and focus for those things.

That's what today's training hike is all about. Just making myself a little bit fitter and a little bit more confident through something I CAN actually do.

Now, remember we are all different. Our abilities are different. Our goals are different. Our needs and profiles are different. What I want or can do is not something to compare yourself to, just as I wouldn't compare myself to you. However, the process I'm going through here could help you think about what might be of use to you.

As always, take from me what helps and inspires and discard and ignore what isn't relevant to you and you life right now.
