So why do #EU Member States meet in two different institutions with almost the same name?
Well, first the EU needs to identify the big issues that need EU solutions, and setting direction is the job of the *European Council*.
To achieve those objectives, the EU has to agree on law and policies, and adopt legislation, that's a job for *the Council of the European Union*

Ok, so the correct answer here was "the Council of the European Union." Meanwhile the "European Council" is where the EU's Heads of State or Government meet to define the EU's general political direction or priorities.
Also, the "Council of Europe" is not an EU body, and has non-EU countries like Georgia, Serbia, the UK party to it. -

So, on to December 6. On that day, the Hungarian presidency of the #EUCouncil shared a report that summarised the member states’ discussions on these proposals so far.
Their verdict: All well and good, but please do think about the competencies of the member states. And of course, national security needs to remain with us. We can expand some existing EU structures, but member states need to be in the lead.

@sl007 Yes, the world appears "directionless" often. BTW, and about #EUTech...I assume they realize an Executive order from POTUS can be canceled at anytime by POTUS, it is not a law. Also I wonder if they heard about a FISA Court. I hope the #EUCouncil and #EUParliament object the position of the #EUCommision on the #TransatlanticDataTransfer, as presented it has no value, the agreement is unenforceable and worthless on itself.
