  1. Still feeling a bit of brain fog after working on the tree damage yesterday. Really not quite ready for that much work, so just a nice Pelican this morning. Year-round visitors for us, just changing location depending on food availability. Graceful in flight.

  3. A Blue Dasher this morning. We are noticing significantly fewer butterflies in the pollinator gardens at home this year. Our count is zero Monarchs, or Fritillaries. We have seen Sulphurs and whites along with now two (2) Swallowtails. The number of Bees, Wasps and Dragonflies is on par with previous years, but butterfly numbers are disturbing. Hoping that changes. The dashers prefer wetland areas.

  5. Spotted Sandpipers this morning. A medium-sized sandpiper that has a large breeding area that includes much of northern US + Canada. The birds overwinter in southern North American, Caribbean, Central and South America. We are lucky to see them over their nesting cycle. Easy to recognize with those spots, and with a beautiful song.

  7. More on Solitary Sandpipers. Saw a group of three during their fall migration back to the tropics. The behaviors were odd (to me). One larger bird was "wings up" and calling at two slightly smaller birds. After some reading, and reviewing in my head, I think this may have been a family group.
