  1. You know what would be more useful during an election than a Presidential-style debate, where the leaders of the two dominant parties spew talking points at each other?

Well anything really. We need those like a fish needs a bicycle.

But I'm thinking a whole debate on each policy area; housing, social wellbeing, corrections, etc. Between the current minister and opposition spokespeople for that portfolio.

  5. "... it felt a little bit to me like a cross between a political program and a bit of a game show. The "raise your hands" and all that stuff. I just wanted something a bit more serious I think."

  9. I'd really like to see an election debate where the host has a button to turn off each speaker's microphone. As soon as any of them starts delivering a scripted talking point, they immediately lose the floor to the next speaker. By having their mic turned off if they don't yield to the host.

Imagine a cross between a debate and an episode of The Weakest Link.

  13. @NZedAUS also as usual the men dominated the talking time, Seymour just recites low energy incomprehensible rubbish over everyone else and should have been reigned in more, Winston usual bombastic self, Marama and Debbie both maximised their talking time with succinct and clear policy when they got a word in. We need to hear more from them. Greens polling equally with ACT and should have had equal time. Still, much better moderation than Hipkins vs Luxon. #nzpol #electiondebates
