"The Epstein Files Transparency Act (EFTA) requires that the millions of documents collected by the Department of Justice (DOJ) about Jeffrey Epstein be shared with the public in a “searchable and downloadable” format. In practice, though, the searchability of the DOJ releases has been crude at best. Keywords may turn up individual links to PDFs, but users have reported major search malfunctions and limitations handling the documents at scale.
As the American public and people around the world try to understand the over 3 million pages of documents, 180,000 images, and 2,000 videos in the latest Epstein Files drop, these search limitations are a serious barrier to entry. In the vacuum created by the DOJ, journalists and engineers have stepped in to fulfill EFTA’s transparency promise. Many of them are using AI tools to create alternative databases and release them for the general public — making the files more easily searched, analyzed, and understood by the average person.
Take Jmail, an interactive archive that has transformed the dense email PDF files of Epstein’s emails into a familiar, searchable Gmail-style inbox. Last month, Riley Walz, one of Jmail’s creators, announced that the Jmail website had surpassed 450 million page views."

It's a good day for obscure international courts, as the often neglected EFTA Court made front-page news in Norway over its judgment in the Norwegian State v Greenpeace Nordic.
The head of #Greenpeace Norway is quoted calling the #EFTA Court "the most important tribunal Norway must deal with as an #EEA country". While the validity of this claim could be questioned, it is certainly more true today than it was yesterday.

Never really understood why in the #UK the discussion about rejoining #EFTA didn't get more traction. Maybe to do with that adherence to the Citizens' Rights Directive would come along with it, and it having been the main issue for many #brexit voters, in particular due to lack of more housing?
In any case, a pity that there's lack of common social policy (with which no one would have to rummage through Europe for something to eat), and that it creates trade barriers.

Hooray for NYS AG Letitia James. She has sued Citibank for poor security and failure to comply with #EFTA when consumers report #fraud or #theft.

"The OAG found that Citi’s systems do not respond effectively to red flags, such as scammers who are using unrecognized devices, are accessing accounts from new locations, or are changing banking passwords or usernames. Additionally, Citi systems do not flag and stop efforts to transfer funds from multiple accounts into a single account and then send tens of thousands of dollars out the door in minutes. Citi also does not automatically initiate investigations or report fraudulent activity to police or law enforcement authorities when consumers first report it to Citi."
"Under EFTA, banks such as Citi are required to reimburse their customers for money in their accounts that is lost or stolen through unauthorized electronic payments. However, Citi illegally exploited a narrow exception in these laws to deny consumer claims for reimbursement, resulting in millions of dollars in losses for New York consumers. Through this lawsuit, Attorney General James is seeking to stop Citi’s deceptive practices and to collect restitution for victims who were denied reimbursement in the last six years, penalties, and disgorgement. "
