  1. European friends, your governments on 18th May are making a decision on removing your ability to see if the food you buy and eat is genetically modified.
Forget the science for a moment.
They want the market flooded with patented seeds that arent free to share and use. Thats enough of a reason even before talking about health risks removed from your personal assessment.

You need to share this, watch it if you can

  2. @ChrisMayLA6 Political pendulums do swing from one side to another. Remember that it was in large part the #Conservative Party that negotiated and took us into the #EEC. Over the years the #Labour Party saw the benefits. Perhaps that pattern will be repeated in some form, more likely maybe with the European minded #LiberalDemocrats. They seem to have inherited that strand of opinion that was once central to UK politics.

  3. My late Dad was not a shrewd money man. He left me no end of old coins which have little value beyond sentimentality. I have 3 #EEC joining 1973 50p pieces which, looking on FleaBay are worth between bugger all and whatever you'd like to delude yourself that they are worth. #UK #coins

  6. @girlabtvillage I'm avoiding making an #EEC reference at this point.

    #TOTP and #UKPolitics probably don't mix.

    #Brexit #rejoin

    (1/n)

If "impoverished" were a decisive yardstick, then many nations should never have joined. Let's think just of #Ukraine as the most-discussed example.
What #Thatcher and many #UK politicians never understood is that the #EU is also a political-integration project, not just an #economic one. The Single Market ceased to to be the single most important aspect of integration when the #EEC became the #EuropeanUnion after the Treaty of #Maastricht...

  9. @kkarhan

Yes, many of #Britain's #Tory's never understood that there was much more necessary change involved when the members of the #EuropeanEconomicCommunity (#EEC) signed the #MaastrichtTreaty and became the #EuropeanCommunity, one ?of the 3 pillars of the #EuropeanUnion (#EU, 2009).

For a nation to prosper, it is not only about #economics, but also about #social, #fiscal, #jurisprudence, and #security issues, among others.

Trade-blocks-only is 1957 thinking. (Treaty of Rome)

  10. CW: EEC

#EEC is still the most democratic institution in the World, period.

  11. @inglesongrey By the 1970s poor management had already gutted UK manufacturing. What was left was sold off and what couldn't be sold was killed off (#BritishLeyland ). Joining #EEC helped and UK still had, and bet the house on, #FinancialServices. That is no longer the case as Paris stock exchange overtakes London.
Yes, there may still be ingenuity and innovation, but to thrive they will probably need to move abroad.
