I've been thinking about the social psychological feedback loops that create minima from gradient descent.

So, #authoritarianism is fed by fear, but authoritarianism breeds fear. So when you begin down that road, there is a gravitational pull toward more and more authoritarianism.

Likewise, #polyamory and security are related. It's easier to be #polyamorous if you feel #economically secure, or if you feel a child would be taken care of if it resulted. The more secure you feel the easier polyamory is.

Yet an easy way to feel secure in your relationship is to control it as intensely as possible. #Monogamy creates (real or perceived) security, which countervails the many sources of insecurity in ones life.

The solution to all of these is to create #communities of mutual #trust. Yet, for most of us, the closest thing we have to such a #community is #work - work where the community dividends are appropriated for private profit.

Every solution leads back to forming #tribes. Make communities where you know people personally and you have mutual trust and can engage in mutual aid.

Every day this becomes harder. Every day the forces around us close in; divide us. We come upon one another as strangers, and so every interaction is defect, or at best tit-for-tat.

Find a way, ANY WAY, to meet people that you enjoy engaging with face to face. This is the roots that fight fascism and crowd out the soil that keeps it from consuming us.

Then you have the #security to create #compassion, and you spread the compassion, not the judgment.

I don't think that it works quite like that; perhaps generally people lose keenness for change, for a variety of reasons, and/or trends change over time which can be misinterpreted as contemporary and recent cohorts receding into #conservatism -- but do we mean #socially or #economically conservative? And is the rumour/adage true in the first place?

In the 15th and 16th centuries in West Africa, the dominant power was the Songhai Empire. Covering an area of around 310,000 square miles (800,000 kilometers2), the Songhai Empire, at its height, was about twice the size of California.

Centered around the #Niger River, the Songhai Empire eclipsed the Mali Empire, which had been the regional power before. Songhai rose to great wealth and power and, for almost two centuries, controlled West Africa #politically and #economically.

My province: population density ~= 1.7 people / km ^ 2. And the population here is concentrated heavily in the southern third of the province - up north, it's 0.2 or 0.1 people / km^2.

For large areas of my province, it will never be #economically feasible to build #charging infrastructure for #EVs.
