CW: banks, business, business ownership, business owner headaches (caused by banks)
I made an equipment purchase for my company today, only for the purchase to suddenly show up on an alternate credit card, maxxing its credit limit in the process as we didn't expect that one to be used. I chalked it up to an error on my part when immediately after moving money in a panic to cover the charge, I got a notification from Capital One, asking if I authorized the *first* charge.
As we pieced together afterwards: Cap One saw a $400 purchase on my business debit card and IMMEDIATELY DENIED IT, without even checking my balance, causing the vendor to put the charge on a back-up credit card on file because they weren't gonna lose a sale (I don't blame 'em...not to mention that these are important to my business). THEN, much later, they asked me if I'd actually tried to make the purchase they denied.
As best I can tell, they are trying to get me to buy their credit card rather than use a debit card attached to my own damned account, which has a balance that would easily cover that expenditure. (Cap One has been doing a several-year-long strip-'n'-shaft maneuver to get rid of its consumer banking segment and go strictly to lending. What's in your wallet? Fraud.)
Instead, I was already considering closing my account and moving it to another bank I had been negotiating with, thanks to some earlier, similar fuckery - and that is now moved very far up in priority. #CapitalOne #DumpCapitalOne -
