  14. Ciarán Bourke died on 10 May 1988. He was one of the original founding members of The Dubliners. He played tin whistle, mouth organ and guitar, as well as singing. Ciarán was responsible for bringing a Gaeilge element to The Dubliners’ music with songs such as “Peggy Lettermore” and “Sé Fáth Mo Bhuartha” being performed as Gaeilge.

His father, also named Luke, was shot and severely wounded as a child by British soldiers from the King's Own Scottish Borderers during the 1914 Bachelor's Walk massacre. Luke Óg went on to be a key member of the Dubliners.

The Bachelor's Walk massacre occurred in Dublin, on 26 July 1914, when a column of troops of the King's Own Scottish Borderers were accosted by a crowd on Bachelor's Walk following the Howth gun-running operation. The troops attacked protesters with rifle fire and bayonets - resulting in the deaths of four civilians and injuries to 30 more. Luke Kelly senior, the father of Luke Kelly of The Dubliners, was one of the wounded.
