My homelab setup has become very simple:
- I want a linux server, mostly for docker
- I want a network (SMB) share
- I want the ability to backup to my buddies, and allow them backup to meI was an early customer of #HexOS, and if the current prices for computer parts weren't as expensive, a new NAS would already be standing next to me.
Maybe it is time to switch anyway — do you have suggestions?

In the past 4.5 years, I've had numerous problems with the system just by using it as intended, or because I went slightly out of bounds by installing more RAM and SSDs that are not “officially supported”.
This week alone, #Synology managed to (1) corrupt my backup integrity and not tell me why, (2) fail to download any updates, and (3) annoy me that I dared to bring my own, unapproved SSDs after the update.
Shoutout to https://github.com/007revad/Synology_HDD_db for constantly bringing my #DS920 into line.

I bought my #DS920+ in hopes that by giving up hardware and software flexibility through a pre-built system, I'd gain stability and peace of mind.
So far, that hasn't really turned out to be true. Although I realize I might not be the typical user, running a few docker containers, wanting SSD storage instead of HDD only, and having proper control over the software stack are not too crazy requirements.

Moved my main #HomeServer from:
Asus PB60: i5-9400, 16GB RAM, 256GB internal NVMe SSD, 1TB external 2.5" SSD
To
Minisforum UN1265: i7-12650H, 64GB RAM, 4TB internal NVMe SSD, 2TB internal 2.5" SSD
Loving #Proxmox so far!
This home server doesn't run my NAS stuff, that's on a #Synology #DS920+
