Given that Drumheller is such a popular tourist spot for Canadians, boycotting, tourism there speaks more strongly to Canadians’ disagreement with that kind of rhetoric. Not even taking into account that Alberta is on Cree Nation land, and treaties # 6, 7 and 8 cannot be violated by premier Smith.

Thanks to everyone who braved the weather last weekend to join us on our last field trip of the year, a sleep over at the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology! We got to make some fossil casts, dig up real fossils, tour the museum in the dark, and spend the night in the Dinosaur Hall!

It was an amazing experience!

For today's #fossilfriday , here's a trace fossil, Ophiomorpha! These are the traces of burrows originally made by crustaceans. The nodules on the outside are the fossilized remains of the crustacean's faeces, which are used to strengthen the side of the burrow. This behaviour can also be seen in modern-day ghost shrimp.

These were found near the boundary of the Bearpaw / Horseshoe Canyon formations.
