I'm sure I wasn't the only boy to be infatuated by Karen Carpenter in the 70s. She was the waif-like all-American girl of our dreams. With a soaring 3-octave contralto voice of an Angel, and a nearly perfect girl-next-door image.
I remember the shocking announcement of her death, in her prime, to a strange new disease called anorexia. I had to look it up. Sadly, it has become the social/beauty plague of too many young women.

Last night, while I was writing, I was also listening to 'Passing Strange', a coming-of-age story about a man in Amsterdam. A history I shared in the late 80's. Wild times!
