Does anyone have a connection with the DotCooperation https://identity.coop organization? It feels like .name would be a natural fit.
If Verisign is treating #dotname like a stranded liability then perhaps they'd be able to pick it up for salvage value.
There's some discussion about the "Public Suffix List", which at first glance looks to be an unspoken motivation behind the cull of third/second domains. I get it, but it's pretty clearly subordinating people to tech.
