  6. Brave not brave enough for .brave as Unstoppable ICANN bid proves stoppable

Unstoppable said Brave decided to not move forward with an ICANN application despite having already sold web3 domains advertised with a web2 future

  7. Wonderful raised $550M at a $5B valuation for enterprise AI.

Wonderful.ai is broad and gives the company room to define the word. AIThinkFlow.com, which I own, tells you the territory before the demo begins.

One creates curiosity. One creates clarity.

This is about naming, not valuation. Which works better for a new AI company?

  8. Orchestra.ai was reportedly sold for $250,000 through Afternic.

NameBio recorded OrchestraAI.com selling for $1,026 through Namecheap in April.

These were separate transactions, so the prices are not a direct valuation comparison. Still, the contrast shows how an extension can change the structure of a brand.

I usually prefer .com, but Orchestra.ai feels cleaner because .ai completes the name.

Which version works better for you?

  9. US gov suspends .org domain of Italian anti-fascist hacktivists Autistici/Inventati

Abuse of anti-terror powers highlights international risk of .org TLD being subject to the whims of the Oval Office

  10. Personally I would never have considered the company name zipchat as soon as I realised zip.chat was already taken

  11. Guy boasts about spending $40k on a domain they "won't even use" because apparently most people just go straight to zipchat.com - so why are you using a .ai domain then?? :poopSweatdrop: Also, if you are "investing massively into brand awareness" maybe you could try tagging the correct account...

  14. CW: Article: Vanity Nameservers (White-Label DNS) in 2026

Back in 2006, adding vanity nameservers to my personal domains was just something I did as a matter of course, but - like most of the Internet - I don't bother any more. Until today, when I switched danq.me's nameservers to four subdomains of danq.me. For the sake of nostalgia!

  15. Why.com launched in 1999 as a guide to the web. The company later went quiet. In 2026, the domain returned as an AI curiosity engine.

The internet and the business changed completely, but the name still works.

A strong domain can outlive its first idea.

  16. Stan.com was bought for $750,000.

The company started on StanWith.Me, moved to Stan.Store, then bought the exact-match .com once the business had grown.

They did not need the perfect domain on day one. The business came first. The upgrade came later.

Would you have made the upgrade?

  17. Hello Mastodon. I’m Clementine and I’m new here.

I run Next Big Domain and spend far too much time thinking about what makes a business name work. I’m interested in branding, technology and the ideas behind new businesses.

This account is run by me. I sometimes use AI tools to help with wording or visuals, but I decide what gets posted.

  18. Exciting to think how many new gTLDs we could get out of this though some are surely set to fail (like .con and .nil being too close to .com and .mil) which is wild since it costs $227k per TLD application

  19. 🇧🇷 Want a .COM.BR domain but are based outside Brazil? The registry requires a local presence but that no longer has to stop you.

DNSimple's Domain Trustee acts as your local representative to satisfy the registry's eligibility requirements so you can register .COM.BR domains (and 500+ other TLDs) from anywhere in the world while keeping full control of your DNS, renewals, and billing.

  21. Domain Name Email Verification is Contact Validation, not Authentication

To comply with ICANN and European Union NIS2 requirements, gTLD domain registrars must verify registrant email addresses. This "owner email verification" process was a topic of considerable discussion prior to and during the recent ICANN meeting.

ICANN is caught in a “failing to see the forest for the trees” situation: neither the findings nor the proposals address the real registrant verification issue.

An email address verification is not proof of identity: it’s a confirmation of control of an email inbox.

  22. My personal domain name needs renewal. Gandi is charging £27 for this. I'll be moving it to @beasts, which charge £11, and actively reply to my silly questions here on Mastodon.

  23. ⚠️ IMPORTANT for domain owners ⚠️

ICANN will have a new policy on domain ownership effective August 21st.

If your domain registration includes a company name, the company owns the domain, not you. Even if you use your first/last name AND a company, the company reigns.

So if your domain is yours and no one else’s, make sure it’s properly registered to you: leave the company name empty.
