  1. 🚲 South #Yorkshire is set to launch a new e-bike hire scheme next spring, giving residents the option to take bikes home on long-term loans rather than using them only for short trips. The scheme, part of the South Yorkshire People’s Network, aims to make e-bikes more affordable and give people greater flexibility in their everyday travel.

Mayor Oliver Coppard said the service would help people who have been priced out of alternative travel choices to access #cycling and make better use of new bike lanes and cycle networks.

Backed by £1.3m, the first 275 e-bikes are now being procured ahead of the planned spring 2027 launch. The scheme will use a tiered pricing model designed to keep costs affordable and has been informed by research and existing e-bike loan schemes in Barnsley, #Doncaster, #Rotherham and #Sheffield.

Further details on pricing, eligibility and registration will be announced before launch.

  7. UPDATE: this has now sold! I'm selling other stuff at ebay.co.uk/usr/zoyzone

Anyone in #rotherham #sheffield #doncaster or nearby with an interest in #DIYscience or #experimental #filmmaking should check out my microscope, which I'm selling to pay for a mobility aid.

It comes with a bespoke smartphone holder, so you can easily record and even livestream the teeny tiny wildlife you find in your local environment. It also comes with a guide on how to find microscopic critters and how to treat them well while they are under your attentive care!

Local pick-up will save you a bunch of money and save me a lot of hassle - I really don't want this thing to get damaged in transit.

This is a #mutualaid request: I need the money to pay for a mobility scooter, as I've become almost housebound due to MS and Long COVID. Boosts greatly appreciated.

  8. South #Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority has shortlisted six bus operators to progress to the next stage of bidding for franchised bus services in #Doncaster and #Sheffield from 2027.

The operators are competing for contracts covering services operating from the Olive Grove depot in Sheffield and the Leger Way depot in Doncaster, forming the first phase of bus franchising in the region.

Bidders will be assessed on service quality (50%), financial proposals (40%) and social value commitments (10%), including local jobs and community benefits.

Bus Franchising Director Matt Goggins said the strong level of interest reflects confidence in the programme. He added that fleet procurement remains on track, all six depots are now publicly owned, and electrification work will soon begin to support a new fleet of electric buses.

Final bids are due by autumn 2026, with successful operators expected to be announced in early 2027.
