    1968: A drawing of the distant universe shows the 'red little dots'. These were the most distant galaxies seen by the telescopes of the time at z ≈ 2.

    1996: HST deep field reveals 'red little dots' that are galaxies at the limit of the infrared sensitivity of the telescope z ≈ 7.

    2024: JWST sees 'red little dots' that are galaxies at the limit of the infrared sensitivity of the telescope z ≈ 25.

  2. James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), the successor of the Hubble Space Telescope, has revealed some surprising discoveries about distant galaxies in its first year of operation. The JWST has detected faint signals from the earliest stars and galaxies and signs of complex molecules and water in the atmospheres of exoplanets. These findings have challenged our understanding of cosmic history and the potential for life beyond Earth.
