I think it's because of jazz artists' inherent humility. And the pot.

Everybody's talking about Kendrick's "A Minor" counter in "Not Like Us" โ and rightfully so! But in my eyes, he had already won here:

LL Cool J - โTo da Break of Dawnโ single
Diss tracks have been around forever. And I mean forever (see โYankee Doodleโ, 1754). I think the first one I was aware of was Ice-Tโs โThe Syndicateโ track.
This one here was a diss to LL's rivals at the time, Kool Moe Dee, MC Hammer, and Ice-T. The single is just this song with several different mixes. Lots of great sampling of 70s funk as usual.
