  15. First up, the Synapsids.
These three (from top to bottom #Gorgonops #Edaphosaurus #Dimetrodon) were late comers to the design process. But chronologically, they were the earliest of the builds.
You can see that Edaph and Dime both use the same core body, with slightly different heads and sails.

  23. This weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #Dimetrodon

In 1845, in the British colony of Prince Edward Island, Donald McLeod, found the first maxilla of what would later become Dimetrodon.

Later purchased by John William Johnson, a Canadian geologist

In 1854 it was described by Joseph Leidy as the mandible of Bathygnathus borealis, a large carnivore related to Thecodontosaurus. In 2015 it was reclassified as a dimetrodon.

In 1878 Edward Drinker Cope formally named fossils be found Dimetrodon.

  26. Dimetrodon (small version) (AAA)
    Written by DinoToyBlog

There are at least five different AAA Dimetrodon sculpts so I’m calling this the “small version” to differentiate it from the others. This one is from the 1980s and there are a handful of interesting aspects that make this figure stand out from other similar cheap Dimetrodons.

While most budget Dimetrodons usually have a […]

  33. A song about Dimetrodon, by The Doubleclicks

    thedoubleclicks.bandcamp.com/t

When I wake up on the wrong side of the planet
And the creamer for my coffee has gone bad
And the people on the streets should really can it
'Cause I don't think they would like me when I'm mad

Down at the bottom, I have a secret trick
I have a thing to bring me up when I am low
It is simple, it's easy, and it's real quick
And it went extinct two hundred million years ago

    Dimetrodon
They ate sharks and were 10 feet long
    Dimetrodon
It's a thought that I can count on

When my darkest thoughts have got a hold on me
I close my eyes and I remember all their giant teeth
To shake off all the problems I have piled on
I picture the sail-backed giants of Dimetrodon

I am walking in a mall or in an airport
And I'm filling up with loneliness and fear
Like I'm not really a member of this species
And I don't think I am special, I'm just weird

When I am feeling this, one thing can make me smile
There are other folks who never quite fit in
They're kind of mammals but they look like reptiles
But I bet that difference never bothered them

When my darkest thoughts have got a hold on me
I close my eyes and I remember all their giant teeth
To shake off all the problems I have piled on
I picture the sail-backed giants of Dimetrodon

    Be yourself
    Count on your inner strength
    Find your people
    Hunt the weak

  35. This is actually the third time I've drawn #dimetrodon. First time was as a bonus to my Humans and our Cousins project ( sauropods.win/@Vickysaurus/109 ) It was one of the first times I ever drew #paleoart, and I wish I hadn't made it so scaly. The second time was a silly image that popped into my head when I read of an old hypothesis that sail-backed #synapsids used their sails to surf across the water. 'Surfin' synapsids' fits the rhythm of 'Surfin' USA' perfectly. It's joined by Edaphosaurus

  36. A first person view of petting a #dimetrodon like the big pupper it is.

This one popped into my head fully-formed when I saw a Dimetrodon skull at the Paris natural history museum. It looked so friendly and loveable, and in that moment I could easily imagine it laying its head in my lap to ask for pets.

If you enjoy my art, consider leaving a tip at ko-fi.com/vickysaurus/ . Thanks!
