I'd been practicing basic tatted chains for the last month and finally took a workshop. Learned some things but honestly, did almost as much un-tatting as tatting, ended up with a mess, and burned out my patience for the day. Lovely examples to aspire to another day, though. #DHmakes #DHtries

#DHtries Wanted to use masking (cutout paper) over a solid block of type (reusing recent proj type), to create vaguely lettered background shapes for a print of Hopkin's Pied Beauty. 1st cuts too thin to show; 2nd+3rd show but needed impression level beats up paper & just didn't look like I wanted?

Yesterday's #DHtries was my Whitman typesetting protesting returning to press again: spacing kept popping up leaving 1 tiny dot or line on a print. Did create a pile of beautiful prints I'll give out free that are 99% perfect, w/the imperfection 1 thing like in Pic 1, hard to see at Pic 2 distance

A colleague in art practice was disappointed to not find more examples of letters being woven (not objects with text, or weaving letter shapes, but letters themselves as weft). Also had a real #DHtries where I engraved a friend's research project logo on a round wood plaque. Backwards (horizontally reflected, whoops), because I'm used to doing that for printing blocks (may still work as one but that wasn't the intent)

This return to crochet is now pretty solidly positioning itself in the Weird Blanket category. The fluffy white yarn was very confusing to read, leading to a LOT of increases that I had to decrease because it was turning into Not Blanket Shape. Also briefly forgot the pattern. 😬 #DHmakes #DHtries

#FiberuaryChallenge Day 17: Project bag. Let's be honest, all my project bags are full of shattered dreams. This is the bag for knitting a blanket for the second-grader. I can't count, the thing is a mess and getting frogged. I also failed at a Pride cardigan I loved recently. #DHmakes #DHtries

This block prints its bamboo grain (had to run to an ACH zoom before I could do a 2nd/3rd laser pass to remove, & some lines were too thin for more passes so needed to edit those out of the cut). Looks neat, even though I would've preferred a cleaner block given this image's detail #DHtries #DHmakes

This was also a #DHtries as when I placed to cut these, the laser wasn't coming out of the laserhead. We cleaned the lenses, recalibrated, restarted the software, etc. but... didn't do that "turn it off & back on again" physically. Turned out unplugging it and re plugging it fixed the issue.

I am deep into my first major "take it apart and fix it" moment with the 3d printer. It's the kind of thing that's always terrified me. But I'm telling myself that I handle small fiddly things all the time with embroidery, knitting, and crochet and screws are no different. #DHmakes #DHtries

Regardless, this 3d printer is an absolute ray of sunshine delight compared to wrangling a knitting machine. Maybe it can shame its yarny cousin into behaving better. #DHmakes #DHtries
