If given the option, which food dehydrator would you choose (price/availability does not matter, is "gift" from work from another source). Both are dishwasher safe, both are BPA free.
Round: 96.7 inches of area per tray; plastic trays; height 8.5 inches to 10.75 inches
or
Rectangle: 90.4 inches of area per tray; stainless steel mesh trays; height 8.7 inches to 11 inches
(Yes, I currently have a choice but wanted to see what others thought in case I'm not thinking of something.)

How to Use a #FoodDehydrator
Learn how to make the most of this #LowTech, old-school method of #FoodPreservation and get recipes to try.
By Julie Kendrick, December 17, 2020
"In an era when the Instant Pot is the hottest kitchen gadget, a food dehydrator seems like the humble tortoise to the pot's rapid, hare-like qualities. But, just like in Aesop's fable, the humble #dehydrator takes its time and gets the job done — often coaxing more depth of flavor and complexity from ingredients that super-fast prep might allow.
A food dehydrator is a great tool for folks for having lots of produce from a #HomeGarden, but limited freezer space. It's much easier method than canning, and even though it takes a long time to get to your final product, almost none of that time requires fussing from you. Finally, if you don't want to run up your energy bill or tie up your oven for hours at a time, a food dehydrator might be a good fit for your kitchen."

All jobs are done & then some 😁. Delivered what I needed to at my daughters. Dropped off some donations to the op shop & found a lovely pair of black jeans there that fit beautifully - winning! Picked up some milk & some silverside as that was on special.
Home & sat at the kitchen table to peel & slice heaps of feijoas to put in the dehydrator which is now going & I will have to do the same again tomorrow as I could only fit a third of them in plus I have the bowl full that dropped last night & there will be more again by tomorrow. Most of the really big ones have all dropped now. I also now have purple fingers from the feijoa skins 🤣😂. #Feijoas #Dehydrator -
Good morning Fedi friends. It’s a glorious sunny morning, just an 8c start & a little mist around but now the sun is shining & will stay that way. Heading up to a lovely 17c, perfect for working outside or even just sitting with a book & a cuppa.
The feijoas finished drying at around 3am & I dealt with them when I got up. They shrink a lot, which I did expect & I have a container half filled with hard little fruity discs. I could have shortened the time so that they’d remain pliable, but then they wouldn’t keep as well. I’ll crush & sprinkle some on my chia porridge & I’m sure I’ll find other uses. I’m happy with the first effort anyway & there will probably be another lot drying in less than a week. I picked up a bowlful that dropped during the night. Some of these will be given away, some I will eat.
I heard from the maintenance people early today who have received work order to look at the bathroom issue. They’re coming on Monday morning which works well for me.
Not much on the agenda today, this is a quiet week for me which doesn’t often happen. So another at home balance class & then I’m going to enjoy that sunshine & watch the grass grow.
Have a great #Wednesday everyone, stay safe & stay warm out there🌻. #Weather #Exercise #Feijoas #Dehydrator #Maintenance #CHL. -

Trying to make beef jerky in our dehydrator today. This is our first dehydrator project, wish us luck! :P

Had some 3d printing filament that was going poorly. Finally bought a generic food dehydrator and after 6ish hours the filament is definitely happy again.
Just put another even older/poorly performing spool in next and we will see how that turns out later.

My lovely partner brought home a full hand of bananas for me to slice, and during the past few cold autumn nights our #dehydrator has produced lots of sweet, crispy gold coins.
The downside to having a giant stash of #banana coins might only be apparent to those of us who aren't very adept at portion control. As the effects of lax banana restrictions are somewhat delayed, you might also find yourself repeating the mistake the next morning.

This weekend’s experiment with the #dehydrator: summer squash chips! Slice thin, steam for a few minutes, let drain thoroughly, season, dehydrate in 135 for about 7 hours.
They’re very tasty but I think I’ll leave them in the steamer less long next time so that they don’t disintegrate quite as much before dehydrating.

Next experiment: super thin vegetable chips with potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, and parsnips! Stay tuned!

My first round was fruits: fresh bananas, canned peaches, canned pineapple, canned mandarins, frozen haskaps, frozen raspberries, frozen cherries, fresh grapes, fresh tangerine slices, fresh apples.
All were edible and tasty, but some were more successful than others. Next time I do raspberries, I will take them out much sooner, for example. And the grapes never did dehydrate properly even though I left them in there much longer than anything else.

My literal sabbatical project, i.e. the one I applied for and got the sabbatical with, is of course a research project in my field. But my OTHER sabbatical project is going to be learning how to dehydrate all different types of food! My #dehydrator arrived today and is currently being used to dehydrate several trays of fruit. I am INORDINATELY excited about this.
Do you have a dehydrator? What do you do with it?

Jm schon mal Zitrusfrüchte dehydriert? Ich habe mein komplettes Obst gerade aufgeschnitten und in den #Dehydrator gelegt, auch Zitronen und Limetten.
Was mache ich damit 🍋🍊🍋🍋🍋? Einfach 1-2 Scheiben in Gemüsepfanne oder Suppen, oder? Oder zum Reis in den Reiskocher. Habt ihr noch 'ne Idee (außer Tee)?

UK - anyone got any recommendations for a food #dehydrator? Trying to think of ways to preserve more #growyourown produce other than pickling, preserves, and freezing (we don't have that much spare freezer space).
We have a fair bit of #allotment produce that could probably be dried but if you try to just air-dry them in the cold & damp UK they just go rotten and mouldy.
Price point under £100, preferably more like £50.

Rack of apples in the dehydrator. Several pounds worth. 135F for 16-17 hours will probably do it. You can tell these went through the peeler/cover due to their extremely regular slices. #apples #preserving #dehydrator

In 2020 I made and jarred up some thick round bread-and-butter sweet #pickles that turned out... mushy.
They taste good, but the mouth feel is a problem. The ones I haven't eaten? I'm never gonna eat.
But before I throw them away...
Today I have the #dehydrator running to make some #okra #chips. The experiment: I'm gonna dehydrate these mushy pickles and make pickle chips. It's a no-cost low-effort last-ditch attempt to avoid both food hoarding behavior but also food waste.

Quite pleased with the food dehydrator gadget I bought a few days ago. I now have a jar full of dried Morello cherries, some of which will go into this year's Christmas pudding.

#Dehydrator experiment has paid off beautifully. Possibly too beautifully, I have eaten far more dried apple today than my guts probably needed, but that's a problem for another time. I have boxes and boxes to preserve. Bit gutted i only discovered/started using it now, it's been in the house for 2years. So much wasted yum-ness.
More experiments today in the form of blending the peel to make fruit leather, and some thicker chunks, though I'm loving the crispiness of the crisp/chip shaped ones.

CW: food
Further #dehydrator experiments. We have tried pear, banana, green kiwifruit, and gold kiwifruit.
So far my favourite aside from the apples is the gold kiwifruit. A nice balance of tart and sweet, and the consistency comes out almost like gummy candy. I'll cut them a little thicker next time so you can really sink your teeth into them.
