I really recommend Debra Granik's 2018 film Leave No Trace. I watched it because it has a cameo by one of my favorite musicians, relatively unsung Portland OR genius Michael Hurley, singing his beautiful song O My Stars, but it's excellent and worth watching in itself. It's a gentle but hard hitting story about the emotional tolls homelessness and PTSD take on families and especially children and the damage that carceral state social service institutions do to exacerbate everything.
