Daniel J Townsend has developed a reputation as one of Australia’s most engaging and inspiring folk performers.
He is arguably the first songwriter in the world to release an album as a podcast, and has performed at folk festivals all over the country, including The National, Nannup, Darwin, Major’s Creek, Tablelands, Fleurieu and Cygnet, along with countless shows in bars, clubs and living rooms across the country.
Daniel has published a number of books, including ‘Faxes to a Young Songwriter’ and a poetry anthology.
He facilitates workshops in songwriting and poetry for schools and community groups, co-hosts Kunanyi Folk Club, mentors young songwriters and poets, and even hosts a fortnightly song circle in his nipaluna / Hobart home.
Daniel co-wrote 2020’s Songs From The Great Pause with fans during the first COVID lockdown, and released his very popular celebration of Tasmania’s favourite highway, Midland Highway: The Musical the same year.
