  1. The Lorne Theatre is back and their first music event is CALEXICO.

The gig celebrates the double decade milestone of one of the greatest albums to enter our aural atmosphere and the return of CALEXICO to our Southern shores.

According to The Guardian “Calexico are amazing live. Not only is their material extraordinarily good, but this is a band who clearly just dig playing…”

Across their illustrious career, the charismatic core pairing of Joey Burns and John Convertino have earned a fevered following for their unique melting pot of Americana, cinema noir, desert jazz, TexMex tango, Latin rhythms, and French chansons.

Their 1998 album The Black Light and 2000’s Hot Rail saw their star rise, but it was Feast of Wire in 2004 that completed the trilogy of sorts and shot them into the musical stratosphere.

  2. Award-winning songwriter and performer Alana Wilkinson is as equally comfortable in the intimate confines of a house concert or the expansive surroundings of a festival.

Her wit, humour and insightful social commentary have turned heads at a string of major festival appearances including Woodford, Queenscliff, Blue Mountains, Nannup, and Port Fairy, and with sold-out headline shows, and support slots for the likes of Daryl Braithwaite, Tim Freedman, Fanny Lumsden, Clare Bowditch, The Pierce Brothers and Kav Temperley.

She’s currently on a Festival of Small Halls tour with Scottish fiddler Ryan Young performing at such exotic venues as the Broke Community Hall at Broke, The Forge Theatre at Bairnsdale, and the Colac Otway Performing Arts and Cultural Centre.

On the tour Alana will be supporting Aussie rock legend Ross Wilson before heading to the US to showcase at Folk Alliance International.

  3. Charlie Woods is a proud GuriNgai woman and is no stranger to Australia’s thriving live music scene, her talents as a trumpeter are widely known, from sharing stages with the likes of The Teskey Brothers, Gang of Youths, The Seven Ups, and TEK TEK Ensemble which have taken her across the globe.

Charlie Needs Braces is a solo project featuring live looping and original compositions inspired by her new braces and learning about her family’s Aboriginal heritage.

She says, “I wanted to use language as inspiration. A lot of the words have deeper meanings and have stories themselves – particularly the names of places.”

Charlie relates her music to community and connection through all that she puts out into the world. A recent film clip was filmed on a “sacred area called, Karyung (meaning meeting place)” and included her sister, mother and grandmother.

  4. James Howard is a Jaadwa composer and songman and has been actively working with music for about 15 years.

He’s doing a PhD through the Wilin Centre at the University of Melbourne, looking at ways to reconnect to an Indigenous heritage through arts practice.

James says, “I feel like the ambient soundscapes speak more to connection to Country and place, while the songwriting is more about this process of reconnection, being raised in a white Australian setting and coming to terms with what it means to be passing as white and Indigenous at the same time.”

That was his motivation for looking at identity and place through a sound lens, looking for a personal statement on how these reconnections can be made.

“The thinking about identity and place informs the practice, which then informs the thinking again, and it just keeps on developing. The same can be said about the songwriting.” He adds.

  8. 2023 marks the 40th Anniversary of Goanna’s 1983 song, ‘Let The Franklin Flow’ and the High Court Decision, on July 1st 1983, that prevented the damming of the Franklin River.

In 2021 Goanna’s lead singer accompanied protestors to blockade the road in the Tarkine that leads to the proposed mine tailings dam site.

Two years later, the protesters are still fighting for nature and for common sense.
GOANNA has now released their first new song in 25 years.

The new single is called ‘takayna’, which is the palawa word for the Tarkine rainforest in North West Tasmania.

  9. One of Australia’s finest songmen, Neil Murray, released a new album, The Telling, in April. The Telling contains some of his strongest songs ever. The songs mainly concern themselves with country, and care for country. “The Murrumbidgee” is an affirmation of perseverance and hope - despite environmental setbacks. The Telling sees instrumental contributions from Bill Heckenberg,(drums) Craig Kelly, (bass) Stephen “Stretch” Teakle (keys, accordian, clavietta), Damien Neil (mandolin, guitar), Jack Howard (trumpet), Shane Reilly (pedal steel) with vocal harmonies from Grace Robinson & Damien Neil.

  10. Hi all, a quick #introduction from me. At this time of my life I have relaxed into #retirement and am working towards #senility.

Since 1976, I have been involved with #CommunityRadio, initially with 7CAE-FM in #Hobart #Tasmania, but I am now based out of #Geelong on 94.7 the Pulse with a show called Tempo, where I play such a random selection of music that the show is tagged as "guaranteed to have one track you'll hate."

If this is all too boring, I'm happy to discuss the #phenomenological #analysis of the #ontology of #literature. At your own risk!
