So after more than 3 years of beingy primary "daily driver" computerthing my #PinebookPro has sadly decided it's PCIe bus is un-trainable and its USB innumerable. Besides that it has been dropped on its corners one too many times (ok maybe a few more than one too many times) and it's aluminium has bent and it's plastic transmogrified into potato crisps.

As such I have fully discombobulated the unit to see if I can make it boot again and perhaps repurpose it's innards as a True #CybreDeck or some such thing.

Sure I could order replacements for the broken bits from @PINE64 but that is like over 50% of the thing and TBH I think this plan is more fun and I want something more robust and janky looking

Because I could implement nearly everything I want out of personal computing with #cybredeck and a linux command line, and I've done that at various points in the past.

I did it for years, really.

I could implement nearly everything I want with dosemu and a local proxy to strip https so that old dos apps can access the internet.

But uhh, neither of those things is really the thing I want right now.

Charging some 12v batteries at the moment.

I bought some fuses, so I can place one in line near the terminals. I'm waiting on wires and cables and connectors to arrive before I can rough up a prototype battery pack and recorder for my vintage cameras.

I sketched a thing last night of how I want it to look/what I want it to be when it's finished.

Turns out, it's not just battery pack and a recording unit, it's a full on #cybredeck, leveraging OBS as a built in titler/ wireless streamer.

So This DevTerm from Clockwork Pi appears to be everything I could have wanted out of a #cybredeck when I was 14.

Design inspired by the Tandy 102, but slightly smaller. Screen the same basic aspect ratio as the HP 200 LX, but with modern connectivity and USB.

It'll run DOSBox, it'll run DVTM and all the various terminal apps I need.

The screen ain't sunlight readable, like my Omnibook, but ... I wonder what the bat life is like.

look at the devices you are currently using on a daily basis, and see what you need to add/change to your #cybredeck to replace them, or to improve interaction with them?
Are there things you wish your current devices would do, but either can't or are too cumbersome?

I'm struck by a question I never thought I'd have to ask.

What am I going to do with my #cybredeck?

Like, what features should I build in to it? What should I optimize for? Whats the most cybrepunk//solarpunk shit you can do with a computer today?
