I'm thrilled to announce that "Newbie-Ginnings: A Cyber Security Comic Anthology" is now available for preorder! lnkd.in/eCkHZ4bC

This #comicbook anthology is close to my heart for so many reasons, but I'll keep this post just to the main two! First, I was lucky enough to be a co-editor with Allan Liska (founder of Green Archer Comics) and Emily Crose (author of Our Lady Maven), both of whom are inspirations in the #cyber #security community. We (along with Liezl Buenaventura and Saida Temofonte LLC, whose art design work was indispensable) put so much care into curating this 44-page anthology featuring 7 captivating stories from cyber security experts around the world that merge engaging storytelling with crucial insights into the cyber realm.

Second, I also contributed some scripts... notably, a 5-page comic that showcases my research on #InternetOfThings risk to journalists. Through my work, I discovered that while many #journalists are knowledgeable about traditional attack methods, they often lack awareness of the risks posed by newer technologies. The story follows a journalist working on an article that makes her the target of "The Adversary", who orchestrates a campaign of cyber-attacks through #IoT devices.

My goal was to provide a larger-than-life but still relatable and immersive exploration of less anticipated modern vulnerabilities and threats. Particularly in a year of so many elections, it was crucial for me to highlight that these risks to journalists extend beyond the abstract fear of #surveillance and can have tangible implications for their work and well-being - as well as for society because of the reach of the media and its role in upholding #democracy.

There’s something for everyone (in both my comic and the anthology as a whole!): By presenting the information in a sequential art format (complete with gorgeous art by Kame, and perfect lettering by Isabel Impink), I aim to make the topic more approachable and engaging for diverse audiences, including those who may not have a technical background in cyber security; journalists may appreciate that (like old newspaper comic strips) each page of the comic has its own title and story arc; cyber security experts will hopefully be tickled/intrigued by the novel approach to presenting complex #risks.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to have contributed to this much-needed anthology, and I'm beyond excited for you all to read it and share the vision that Allan, Emily and I had throughout the editing process. And, if you enjoy it enough... the anthology's next CFP is out in October!
