Nueva York.- El gigante tecnológico Apple aceptó pagar 250 millones de dólares para resolver una demanda colectiva en Estados Unidos que acusaba a la empresa de publicidad engañosa al exagerar las capacidades de inteligencia artificial (IA) de sus dispositivos iPhone 15 y 16.
La demanda, presentada ante un tribunal federal de San Francisco, alegaba que la compañía con sede en Cupertino (California) creó una «falsa impresión» sobre la disponibilidad inmediata y la eficacia de Apple Intelligence, la IA de la compañía de la manzana mordida.
Según los demandantes, el marketing de la empresa indujo a los consumidores a comprar nuevos terminales bajo la promesa de una versión vanguardista con IA de Siri que, en la práctica, no se materializó en los plazos anunciados.
Compensaciones para los usuarios
El acuerdo, que aún debe recibir la aprobación preliminar de un juez, contempla compensaciones para los clientes en Estados Unidos que adquirieron modelos de iPhone 16 o versiones Pro del iPhone 15 entre el 10 de junio de 2024 y el 29 de marzo de 2025.
Los clientes elegibles podrían recibir entre 25 y 95 dólares por dispositivo, dependiendo del volumen total de reclamaciones presentadas.
Los medios especializados estiman que el acuerdo cubre aproximadamente 37 millones de dispositivos vendidos en territorio estadounidense.
Apple niega malas prácticas
A pesar del desembolso, que se perfila como uno de los mayores acuerdos extrajudiciales en la historia de la firma, Apple no ha admitido ninguna infracción legal y la compañía defiende que, desde el lanzamiento de Apple Intelligence, ha introducido «decenas de funciones» como las traducciones en vivo (Live Translations) e inteligencia visual.
En los últimos años, Apple se ha visto rezagada en la carrera de la IA generativa, sobre todo en comparación con los dispositivos de Google y Samsung.
La empresa presentó Apple Intelligence en su conferencia de desarrolladores (WWDC) de 2024, pero muchas de las funciones más avanzadas, diseñadas para que Siri compita con herramientas como ChatGPT, han sufrido retrasos.

Zaledwie miesiąc po tym, jak Apple oficjalnie potwierdziło przejście na emeryturę dyrektora operacyjnego Jeffa Williamsa, pojawiają się doniesienia o kolejnych zmianach w ścisłym kierownictwie firmy.
