  1. Amex CreditSecure alerted me that somebody had opened a collections account with my details, reported to all three credit agencies. Called them, and they were able to see that the originator of the alleged $60 debt was Comcast: A company I have not had any dealings with since 2017 when I canceled my service and paid the final bill from them (and that was just $6).

Disputes filed with all three agencies now; will see what comes of it.

  2. Honestly, there's a lot I don't understand. And this is one thing.

Every time I pay off a credit card balance (which I do every month) I receive a credit monitoring "ALERT". I get a several because all the breaches involving me have given me free credit monitoring provided by different companies.

I cannot understand why paying off a debt is a warning sign that my account may be compromised. Why do credit monitoring companies do this? Do scammers often pay off people's debts? One of us is surely ignorant.

  3. My current stack of credit monitoring service subscriptions will expire in 2028. At this point, wouldn't it be cheaper to tax all larger companies 10 cents a year to pay for those services for every American? No need for another hack and lawsuit.

  4. Oh look, all my credit monitoring "services" just noticed the National Public Data breach!

    Timely!
