Monsterdon had a milkshake duck experience with director Luigi Cozzi last night.
Beloved director of Hercules and Starcrash also made an edited version of Godzilla 1954 in which he inserted footage of *actual* dead bodies. WTF!

Re: WWII footage in Cozzilla
The year before, the film All This and World War II was released, then pulled from theaters. It combined WWII newsreel footage with covers of Beatles songs.
All prints were rumored to be destroyed, but there’s a copy on YT. How bad was it? Well, the opening credits introduce the Nazis, perpetrators of the Holocaust, set to “The magical mystery tour is coming to take you away.”
How did this get made?

You must put Cozzi in context; 1977 Italy was not like 1977 America, and they were quite proud of Spectrorama-70!
Plus it isn't easy to make a convincing 'monster' movie, let alone try to explain Godzilla!

Apparently, cinema chains in Italy in the 70s wouldn't accept any feature film under 90 minutes or black & white, so Cozzi had to colourize it & pad it out (original Godzilla was 80 minutes).
He ended up padding it out to 105 minutes
