Dear Mastodon,
If you had not already heard, the U.S. is heading into another 'Arctic Blast' weather pattern this week-end that is going to be hitting most of the U.S.; including the Southern States.
My own State of Florida is expecting lows in the 20's (-6 Celcius) and highs in the 40's (+4 Celcius).
I would like to invite anyone who lives or has lived in a cold-climate area to thread this post with tips and suggestions for folks not used to extreme cold temperatures.
For context in Florida the normal Wintertime low is in the 50s or 60's Fahrenheit and is considered cold... a lot of folks don't know things folks from cold climates take for granted.
As a former Alaskan, I have some notes:
Clothes: Effective layering for Cold.
It is not enough to just wear multiple layers. You need to be strategic! Effective layering begins from the skin out. 2 undershirts, a long-sleeved t-shirt, a any button up long-sleeved shirt, and a sweater BEFORE you pop on the jacket will go far to keep you warm in extreme cold weather.
Gloves and scarves if you have them or can get your hands on them are always helpful.
A Hat is good, and this time of year one of the best cold weather investments you can make is a fake fur Santa Hat or something similar.
Please consider boosting and adding to this thread as you are able.
Thanks and stay warm out there.
