HAPPY FULL WOLF MOON <baying at moon>
The wolves howl at each other to coordinate their hunts, and December's moon takes their name. Today's full moon (5am Eastern) is also known as a Cold Moon and a *Spirit Moon*.
Tonight he will be bigger than usual, a Supermoon to brighten our long nights.

Some views of the supermoon two nights ago at 98 percent illumination, just a few hours before full. It was my first time using a 2x Barlow lens to boost the magnification and I like the results so far! Last night’s full moon, the last supermoon of the year, was what the Mohawk Nation calls the Cold Moon — also known by other names such as the Snow Moon (Cherokee), the Frost Exploding Trees Moon (Cree), the Moon When the Deer Shed Their Antlers (Lakota), the Long Night Moon (Mohican), and the Moon When the Wolves Run Together (Cheyenne). Beautiful by any name.

The Cold moon apparently. But also a pretty cool shot by me if I say so myself. And I’m not even annoyed by the lack of focus. :)
I’m pretty amazed I got this, especially with the storm. I saw the plane crossing the moon just as I was fixing the focus and snapped but I have exposure delay set so this really was lucky on multiple levels.

I believe the plane was a RyanAir 737 flying from Dublin to Kerry.

I thought I was going to miss another full Moon. That has happened several times this year. The cloud cover on Christmas Eve was too solid to see anything. Early evening on Christmas was also bad. About 11:30 PM there was a bit of thinning in the clouds and I got the first shot. About an hour later the clouds got very thin for a bit and I got the other pictures...

There's a coyote in my urban neighbourhood. I have been keeping an eye out for it, but no luck until tonight. I was walking Zeus, my labradoodle, under a nearly full moon, when it appeared. It was sauntering south on the other side of the road where we were walking north. It looks like an oversized fox, but more muscled and mangy. Magic!
