  3. Following the move to our new, more powerful server a few days ago, we have now also enabled code search (via the new zoekt option available in Forgejo v16).

Code search is restricted to logged-in users to prevent anonymous abuse.

  5. Due to our host migration, our SSH fingerprints have changed.

The new ones are listed at docs.codefloe.com/usage/ssh/#h

You can update these on your boxes as follows:

    ssh-keygen -R codefloe.com
    ssh -T [email protected]

  7. An over engineered risk mitigating triple deployment approach to publishing a personal blog. One for each visitor I sometimes get.

There's some irony that at the time of pushing the content Git Hub is having issues -

Update - We are continuing to work on an issue affecting GitHub Actions.

Capacity remains constrained and jobs may still be delayed or fail while it recovers gradually. Customers using self-hosted runners may see errors or rate limiting when runners register.

Copilot code review, Copilot coding agent, and migrations using GitHub Enterprise Importer may also be affected. Webhook deliveries may be delayed.

    Our engineers remain actively engaged.

  9. We will migrate Forgejo from a Cloud VM to a Proxmox VM (AX102 base) this Friday. This will result in a short downtime of the instance during migration.

The new server has double single core performance and a much faster (datacenter) NVME, so interacting with the instance should become (even) faster afterwards.

Sneak peek: we are currently also working on enabling code search (via zoekt) and migrating Meilisearch to a HA Typesense cluster.

  11. @cichy1173 you're the first one to appreciate and callout our CI runner speed - appreciated :)

We've recently added some new CI servers and have updated the respective docs page with details about the underlying hardware a few days ago: docs.codefloe.com/cicd/hardwar

A global announcement for this is still pending.

  13. I moved cichyform repository with my custom Terraform modules to @codefloe . Original repository on codeberg has not been deleted but archived so your stacks should be usable without any migrations. But all tags and commits are migrated to CodeFloe, so just simple edit in source="" should be enough to migrate :-)

  15. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend #CodeFloe as an alternative software forge. The values of its founder are clearly not aligned with my own.

I'll be removing a couple of internal projects I'd set up there.

I'm not sure what's the next step. I've been avoiding the idea of self-hosting #Forgejo but maybe at this point that's simply inevitable. 😅

(I self-hosted Gitea for a while way back in the day…)

  17. RE: social.tchncs.de/@codefloe/116

@mitsuhiko I agree to some extent; I think the blurry lines might cause endless discussions about edge cases later on, even though they're clearly defining a stance, and this may cause the net benefit of repelling AI users overall.

That being said, I wouldn't say there is *no* alternatives. #Codeberg has gotten a bit of fame lately indeed, but there are other self-hosted #Forgejo instances which are happy to welcome AI users, e.g. #CodeFloe.

Although I appreciate what Codeberg does, I also recommend CodeFloe. I've been using it for several months now and it has works flawlessly!

It's particularly suited for your non-Open Source software and they don't have an Anti-AI clause.

Bonus for better uptime in my experience.

  21. Now that #codeberg has manifested their anti-AI view with a 70% in favor vote (codeberg.org/Codeberg/org/pull), we're happy to welcome (once again) all the people which have to/want to move their repositories off Codeberg but still want to stay on a Forgejo-based instance.

Bonus: on top you'll get better uptime, faster site responses and faster CI runners - all for free :)

tl;dr: after this ToU change, keeping AI-generated code on Codeberg would violate these and repositories will be in danger of deletion.

  25. Pretty cool milestone for Forgejo Gruvbox: it’s now included in @codefloe vendored themes 🎉

Even better, this came from a neat idea by CodeFloe founder Pat S: a simple shell script to flatten the original Stylus source into raw CSS, paired with a release workflow to auto-publish the assets on every tag.

  35. Our hosted #renovate bot now runs via the mogenius/renovate-operator (github.com/mogenius/renovate-o).

This enables webhook-based support, i.e. clicking the checkboxes in the renovate dashboard and PR actions now have an effect!

    See: codeberg.org/thomas.leister/

... and the private ones to @codefloe , because Codeberg is for open source licensed repos, only.

    Feelin' good! 💪

  40. In the last hour, we got hammered by an Asian bot farm which used a very recent Chrome UA and thousands of unique IPs issueing around ~500 req/min for arbitrary repo (and request) paths.

This first caused a very high CPU pressure on the server running Forgejo and subsequently also a spike in memory, ultimately making the instance unresponsive.

If you ever wondered how this looks like on the metrics side, we've attached some screenshots here.

We've added a subnet-based rate-limit to catch these (at /16 level), so this attack vector isn't possible anymore (at least at this intensity level).
