"I mean, what are we even doing here? The byline for Belshaw’s articles should be 'Perplexity', who should then thank Doug for giving them the idea, reading the first draft of the article, and helping them with revisions." @milos
I've seen several industry thinkers I used to respect churning out essays and LinkedIn posts that should definitely have their AI tool of choice credited as a co-author. It's so disappointing. #cmonson

Is it because I watch so much Spanish football that I don't understand why these commentators have continued to underestimate Spain every step of the way?
In what world was France the favorite? They definitely had a better chance than most, but Mbappe doesn't automatically make them favorites in every game.
It can't be the lack of a well-known global superstar, either, because they know Yamal is elite, too, and few teams have similar depth.
Spain brought a whole ass TEAM.

"YOUR FLYER LOOKS LIKE GARBAGE"
I don't think I've seen any of these IRL, but they're everywhere online and make me wistful for the good old days of Microsoft Publisher and the ignorantly earnest abuse of mismatched fonts.
I also hate the LinkedIn cartoon slop that's still making the rounds.

No love for Paraguay or their style of play, but it's always amazing that commentators love the "dark arts" and "professional fouls" when it's an elite player or favored team, but are outraged when the underdogs do it.
It doesn't help that the French exaggerate every foul, without any criticism, making me want to foul them myself!

Is Landon Donovan a clown?!?
First he says Spain is under the radar, and then he suggests some Spaniards might be worried about facing the US in the quarterfinals. 🤔 🤣
That's not homer shit, that's 🤡 💩.

The line of librarians queued up at the Amazon Business booth might be one of the most depressing things I've seen this weekend. 😞

"Leaked audio from Accenture says a big source of AI token ‘chewing’ is people just converting PDFs to presentation slides." @404mediaco

A Father's Day with only two new books is weird, but my TBR is out of control, so I get it.
I usually treat myself to a few books after a holiday, but this year will be all about the upcoming Steam Summer Sale.
James Patterson will say it's libraries' fault, though. 🤡💩

Kaepernick had so much potential to do something good and chose this bullshit instead, despite getting plenty of feedback that it's a terrible idea. FOH!

Publishers choosing the nuclear option with James Patterson makes me think the recent library ebook bills are gaining real momentum and have a chance at succeeding.
They're sensing the tide is turning and are willing to risk their reputations to keep readers from having a consumer-friendly way to access ebooks that still makes them plenty of money.
If you're a publisher that doesn't support your primary political organization's agenda, now would be a good time to speak up.

I didn't realize there were two different organizations, but once you see the logos next to each other, the difference is so obvious. 🤡💩

If you want people to flee your zoom immediately, tell them that cameras on is required. If that's not enough, say there will be one on one breakouts with reporting back required.
This meeting was voluntary but I don't think many people stayed (I didn't).

Almost every AI tool and service provider targeting publishers is reframing existing problems and challenges to make it seem like they have the magic solution, but even the best case scenarios require overcoming one of publishing's biggest challenges: messy, proprietary data.
They all require significant revamps of deeply entrenched workflows that have so far resisted far more compelling reasons to change.

"But my colleague was happy: he typed out a prompt, went and did something else, and when he came back, he had something that looked 'good enough'.
What actually happened is that he burned a bunch of tokens to feel productive instead of just giving me the prompt that he gave the AI tool." @riotnrrd
I had a similar experience, but the text was also artificially generated, so the whole deck was an embarrassing mess that was deemed 'good enough'. 🤡 💩

"Many of these sales people haven’t done their research."
The only thing worse than edtech is edtech sales reps, especially the ones who are 10xing their spam with AI-powered marketing tools.
It's a plague in every industry, but edtech remains one of the biggest gold rushes, so the spamming will continue until sales improve.

The realization that everything you've documented while doing a job can be digested and repackaged by an AI tool to create "insights" "from" someone else was disturbing until I also realized that output has limited use without the experience and informed insights that created those original documents.
AI can't replace you, and someone using AI tools without your unique experience can't replace you, either.
Those who believe otherwise will eventually find out the hard way. 🤷🏽♂️
-
The reality is resistance is more often informed by a combination of awareness of AI's fundamental limitations and ethical challenges, plus the ability to make connections to earlier technological disruptions that were also allegedly inevitable.
We've seen this movie before, many times, but some people are heavily invested in pretending that it really is different this time.

Guessing PW's opportunistic cash grab isn't working out like they hoped?
Imagine damaging your credibility, and then digging the hole a little deeper?
-
Yes, there's a theme here...
So many of y'all think you're becoming Cyborgs when you're actually just batteries.

☝🏽
This is usually obvious to anyone who even attempts to look beyond the AI hype, but some of y'all still think "AI" makes you more creative, can write good books, replace good readers' advisory, etc.
🤡💩

"Generic AIs flatten us across society; personalized AIs flatten us within ourselves. One compresses differences between people, the other constrains exploration within them. In both cases, something vital is lost: the spontaneous, sometimes contradictory variety that fuels creativity and individuality." Sandra Matz

Writers who are against using AI tools for writing but think they're fine for marketing are hypocrites. FOH.

Dear Guy: All of these games will be on sale again next year (probably several times), so there's no need to buy them all next week. You still have a backlog to work through, including a few games you were definitely going to play next when you bought them on sale many, many months ago.
PS: This applies to books, too. Your TBR is ridiculous!
-
I'm not really surprised since PW has been platforming this guy's vapid AI boosterism for a while now, but it's still disappointing to see them co-sign and monetize his grift now.
He makes McIlroy's earnest boosterism seem quaint by comparison.

"Ethical AI" is an oxymoron; the only things getting 10xd are misinformation and a lack of trust.

@BlowUpRadio @reesecommabill The minute the KC game ended, they were probably on the phone with NYC to coordinate the parade, and I'd be surprised if any NJ location was given any consideration. Not even a post-parade event in Jersey that night? #cmonson

So Black Friday starts the Friday BEFORE Black Friday, and Cyber Monday is now Cyber Week?
