Okay, we’re not big puzzle adventure game addicts but Blue Prince was critically acclaimed upon its 2025 launch. By indie devs Dogubomb in California, it’s available on all consoles and PC.

The game won Outstanding Achievement for an Independent Game and is considered one of the best games of 2025. We put on our Sherlock Holmes outfit and plunged into this SOB with gusto, for it is an innovative time of it.

So Many Bloody Puzzles in Blue Prince

The game is set in a mansion and players are tasked with exploring it. Puzzlers like this demand a lot from players. You have to go into the game and work stuff out yourself, often with the clues provided, but a lot of the time there’s random head scratching to be had.

But the amazing thing about Blue Prince is how each room changes every day, with 45 of them to explore.

It’s a geek’s paradise as it’s a labyrinth maze of secrets. You take control of Simon P. Jones and head into Mt. Holly Estate (a mansion) to claim your inheritance. Your one goal is to reach Room 46 but, BY JOVE, you need a lot of brainpower to get there.

That’s where the rather clever indeed puzzles kick in, with a rotating daily level of room randomness, so you’ll feel a mixture of clever, lost, and idiotic as you attempt to resolve all this guff.

We knew this one was going to be tough, so we went ahead and checked out a beginner’s guide before heading in. Trust us, the below video is very handy indeed.

Yeah, so you actually draft out the rooms you visit. But there are 45 rooms in a grid format, nine rows by five. You must also consider your daily steps in amongst your puzzle solving, as you have a set limit to consider.

Cripes alive, the main thing here is Dogubomb’s Blue Prince is an extraordinarily clever game. A technical marvel in its complexities, this is the sort of game that non-gamers should gawp at and realise the pastime isn’t just about guns and explosions.

Really, we were astonished by its smarts.

We also found its randomness a little bit irritating, as it’s  easy to get stuck and then you can enter into a world of three hours to make a baby step forward. When, technically, you can complete the full game in about 10 hours (if stuff goes well for you).

For sure, we gave up after a bit and watched someone else complete it for us on YouTube. Hurray! That’s not a slight on Blue Prince, it’s just we wanted to experience this critically acclaimed title from a genre we’re not that arsed about.
