  1. @charlesincities @clive @GrantHenninger relating to #Citydon project, note also #Hometown, a supported fork of Mastodon offering local-only posting & other interesting different features. Led by @darius who is, like me, in #Portland.
[as is #WardCunningham inventor of the wiki, #LinusTorvalds founder & leader of #Linux; and from which came #DouglasEngelbart the father of #HumanComputerInteraction]. What is it about [this] City? 🤔🤝

  2. “The ship is the heterotopia par excellence. In civilizations without ships, dreams dry up."

  3. @charlesincities @clive yes, exactly. I like the idea of it being a place open to experiment and different approaches, lines of thinking; and exploring idea how it might be city-like in itself — polyvalent, heterotopian. Here's a related note from discussions with @GrantHenninger. #Citydon #Archidon

  4. @tmccormick @clive I think it would be great if #citydon staked out a space that was curious and undogmatic about all issues around human settlements, urban design, a bit of architecture, and urban democratic spaces. I'm in the .urbanists space and worry that it's going to become as monochromatic as urbanist twitter. I mean, I agree with everything I read there...which is kinda boring, right?

  5. @clive in discussing #Citydon project idea, I've been thinking about what helpful mechanisms might be suggested by physical-world design, architecture, planning, urban design practices (and perhaps vice versa). Such as "perch spaces" combining overlook and refuge; festivals, parades, plazas, public meetings, street furniture. Forms of overhearing & overlooking (both looking over, & choosing to disregard ;) ). c/ @GrantHenninger @charlesincities

  6. @ntnsndr I wondered, might Social.coop consider hosting additional Mastodon instances for projects with similar ethos, perhaps on a contract or other reciprocal basis? or, how best to raise the idea? The idea came up in discussions about several potential projects—#Citydon, #Archidon, etc

  7. @charlesincities hi Charles, welcome. It will be interesting to see what thoughts & impressions you have about Mastodon & urbanists.social server.

On the related #Citydon angle, I and @GrantHenninger are setting up a Citydon server now, also have registered citydon.org for project site & citydon.social for Mastodon interface.

We've been having creative conversations about various ideas/features/practices to explore, would love to discuss more with you.
