One year ago today, I raised warning flags about @HonAhmedHussen @CdnHeritage funding a purveyor of hate.
No one has been held accountable. No one.
Not one penny has been recovered from the hate monger

Parliament's Procedure and Practice (2017 Edition) has the offending text: https://www.ourcommons.ca/procedure/procedure-and-practice-3/ch_20_7-e.html#:~:text=swearing
It seems to be an artifact from another era, perhaps not noticed since it is so rarely used?
It should be struck.

Seems to me that Heritage, of all Committees, should be more sensitive to this.
Are Charter rights being infringed by this form of being put under oath by creating an affirmation that requires a declaration of a specific religious belief?

-
The #CHPC clerk followed with the usual affirmation.
Why are witnesses asked to bring their religious belief into an affirmation? I don't think taking an oath is unlawful according to my religious belief, but I have a right to be affirmed and should be able to exercise it

-
I choose affirmation because I feel my testimony is between me and the state, not with God.
@jasonjkee & @sabrinageremia had to start with "I do solemnly, sincerely and truly affirm and declare that the taking of any oath is according to my religious belief unlawful" #CHPC

Just reviewed the #CHPC video and I am sitting here a little stunned by the language used in putting the @googlecanada witnesses under oath: https://parlvu.parl.gc.ca/Harmony/en/PowerBrowser/PowerBrowserV2/20230313/-1/38705?mediaStartTime=20230310135011&mediaEndTime=20230310135123&viewMode=3&globalStreamId=14
I have always chosen to be affirmed, not sworn on a religious text, as is my right as a Canadian citizen...

That Google #CHPC hearing was more heat than light. MPs took turns showing how angry they are with Google. Actual news: test ends March 16th, affected users randomized, Google concerns focus on payment for links in Bill C-18 and expansive list of eligible news businesses.

Full round of questions of Google at #CHPC and most MP questions about who isn’t there or doc demands, rather than on the test and its impact. There are real questions but so far no one asking: how many affected? why not disclose in advance? what has it learned? how much longer?

Minister Ahmed Hussen is the minister responsible for @CdnHeritage's Anti-Racism Action Program, but he sure doesn't act like it.

The #CHPC Laith Marouf funding testimony from @HonAhmedHussen and @pablorodriguez was simply not credible. From demonstrably false assertions of immediate action to implausible claims of ignorance, it’s apologies without accountability or consequences.

My takeaways from the #CHPC Marouf hearing: (1) Good questions from MPs from all parties today. The incompetence at Canadian Heritage with vetting, legal contracting, and communications are all stunning. No real mention of consequences other than promises to do better.
