I was sitting on the couch (which has a pee-proof blanket on it) with Putuuqti, my incontinent chinchilla. When he was still a baby, he had bladder crystals. Every time he peed, he cried and there was blood. It was so sad and awful. Fortunately, medicine fixed him up, but probably because of all the pain and trauma he endured, he never learned to control when he pees. And he pees a LOT. I've never had a chinchilla with such an active bladder.

He's 3.5 years old now, and today, for the first time ever, he let me know he wanted to go back to his cage. I took him right away, and he peed as soon as he got back.

This is a red letter day. It's the first time he ever let me know he had to pee. Normally, he would've just peed on me. So proud of my little fuzz butt. He's finally becoming toilet trained. I gave him some dried apple peel as a reward.

Now I feel like one of those parents who never stops talking about their baby's toilet training. #chinchilla #ToiletTraining
