Here is Chanelle Moon, a 22 year old Korean-American Kpop idol ( Korean pop star), mouthing the words "Free Palestine" at a recent online fan event.
This little incident illustrates a huge problem for Israel - the damage to their reputation inflicted by their conduct of the war, with the reputational decline being both global but also particularly marked amongst young Americans.
Of course, pre-existing visceral hostility to Israel and to Jews in general have aggravated Israel's image problem.
Nevertheless, it would be a twofold mistake to think that hostility provides a total explanation of the sinking support for Israel.
In the first place, one does not have to agree with the accusations of genocide to recognize that Israel did in fact do some awful things in this war, and those misdeeds have stained the country's reputation.
In addition, the Israeli government and those who, like me, support the continued existence of Israel must recognize that the problem here is ultimately not one of image , (mis/dis)information, public relations, or communication, even if these factors do matter; the root of the problem is one of politics, the failure to
start enacting, as opposed to continue stalling, a two state solution.My guess is that taking meaningful steps in that direction is the only way to satisfy not just Chanelle Moon but a multitude of young Americans. Those future voters will be crucial to Israel's future.

....Athena?"Chanelle Moon" I have also seen rendered as "Chanel Moon". Usually I roll my eyes hearing a brand name as a given name, but such is the power of Kpop to suppress my worst instincts my eyes remain unrolled.
Athena, besides being exceptionally pretty, deserves notice as a Swedish idol; her parents are Taiwanese and Korean. Her name reminds me that I have been meaning for some time to post something here about postpagan attitudes to the Olympian deities. I hope to get round to this soon!
