A: The Western colonials who have registered .io domains for their various Western whims.

There’s no moral reason to consider their interests. They’re casual unthinking bad actors in this case. Like all those sad white folks in Kenya, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe (nee Rhodesia) still whining about losing the lands stolen by their grandparents. Registrants of .io domains don't even have an excuse of being born into trespass.

#UK returns #Chagos islands to #Mauritius

The entire native Chagossian population, the Ilois, were deported to Mauritius and the #Seychelles from 1965 to 1973 - a crime against humanity.

Meanwhile the Chagos archipelago, detached from Mauritius right before the latter gained independence in 1968, became the British Indian Ocean Territory (#BIOT) and the home to a #US military base.

Several BIOT islands had been returned to the Seychelles when they gained their independence in 1976.

@m Wikipedia to the rescue! I see that guy was Paul Kane, an ICANN insider, through Internet Computer Bureau which he sold to Afilias for US$70m; that a complaint has been lodged on behalf of the Chagos islanders, but Mauritius is now claiming jurisdiction which may complicate matters further...
