  1. Belkin will be bricking many of our sometimes-smart Wemo switches next year. We've had them for >10 years, so a good run for consumer electronics devices.

For several years, the fine folks at @atpfm have sung the praises of Caseta by Lutron. I've begun testing a small setup and I'm already sold. Yes, it's a little more expensive, but the way Caseta works is a significant improvement over our Wemo setup. Don't be put off by the range listed in the specs, this appears to be conservative by at least a factor of 2 in my testing.

  3. FWIW I woke up this morning to working lights and a new Amazon Alexa app #Lutron #Caséta #Alexa #Echo #Amazon

  4. My Lutron Caséta lights just quit working with the Alexa skill. They work fine with the manufacturer app and HomeKit. Anyone else have this issue and/or solve it? I relinked the skill but no help. It worked last night. #Lutron #Caséta #Alexa #Echo #Amazon

  5. Do the new Countdown Timers for Lutron Caséta dimmers and switches require cloud functionality to operate? Or are they fully local? Can Home Assistant see anything about these timers, if they are set?

Yes. #Caseta rules. I’ve got tons of their stuff. Rock solid. Even with metal switch plates!

I did *literally* this morning find a #Philips Hue product that addresses the same issue, for #Hue lights on a wall switch…

    Ordered. 🤞

  9. @badnetmask I love my system, but the dimmer switches need a redesign because they are hard to use in the dark by feel.

  11. @badnetmask My experience with was that it NEED a mesh to function. Installing 1 or 2 devices to try them out won't give consistent performance. I ended up going with instead, but beware of cheap China-sourced equipment - my failure rates with and motion sensors was quite high. is supposed to fix a lot of the platform compatibility issues...as soon as it's ready.

For switches, my system (NOT Zigbee) has been 100% rock solid.

I ended up going with #Zigbee instead, but beware of cheap China-sourced equipment - my failure rates with #Sonoff and #Aqara motion sensors was quite high. #Matter is supposed to fix a lot of the platform compatibility issues...as soon as it's ready.

  13. Installed one of the new Lutron Diva Smart dimmers today, and I really like it. MUCH better than the older Caseta dimmers (which I still have several of). Highly recommended if you're in the Caseta ecosystem (or considering it). I will probably gradually swap out my older dimmers for the new style. I just wish they made a Pico remote that matched... #homeautomation #lutron #caseta #homekit

  15. Finally, I have my entire first floor smartted up with Lutron Caseta switches and HomeAssistant!

Now I just gotta finish the last few rooms in the basement and second floor and all my lights will be ensmartened.

  16. I feel really sorry for all y'all that got into #IoT/#HomeAutomation before #Thread became a real thing.

Definitely gonna try to do some sort of IoT hard-mode run where I just refuse to run anything not Thread-compatible. No hubs, baby!

(Though I'm told as far as hubs go, #Lutron #Caseta is worth violating that rule for its "just works" light switches. Something for later years, for me, anyways.)
