@licho So, casein paint is milk paint, right? I've been wanting to refinish an old desk in milk paint, but from what I've read, to make it waterproof, I would have to apply a layer of beeswax (or some combo of beeswax and maybe raw linseed oil? I have some recipes bookmarked).

@licho I see what you mean. Alkaline (lime) is suggested here, since casein paint is acidic in nature.

Should I paint #caseinPaint with a solution of citric acid to actually make it waterproof? Because it's not actually waterproof. I mean, the internets say it is but it really isn't. They say it turns waterproof when dried. It doesn't. I thought it needs like a month to crosslink or something and then it turn waterproof, I waited, tested. Nope.

There's no instruction that says you should like activate the waterproofing with a layer of acid. #Appropedia just says it's waterproof. But reading on how any acid makes casein insoluble and how any alkaline makes it soluble again it just makes sense. I dissolved it to make it paint. Now I should fix it after it's painted.
